Özdemir Asaf ‘I wanted to embrace the whole world, but my arms fell short’

The “A Master, A World: Özdemir Asaf ‘I wanted to embrace the whole world, but my arms fell short’“ exhibition organised by Yapı Kredi Culture, Arts and Publishing pays tribute to one of Turkey’s greatest poets at the Kadıköy Council Caddebostan Culture Centre Art Gallery between 2 and 23 October 2015.

‘It’s not living that will kill me / It’s this turmoil,’ ‘Ignore me / Wherever you look, there I’ll be,’ ‘All the colours dirtied equally fast / White was named first,’ ‘You can’t share loneliness… / If you could, it wouldn’t be loneliness,’ are just a few of his highly popular verses. A great exhibition now pays tribute to Özdemir Asaf.

The great poet Özdemir Asaf, creator of dozens of poems known by heart, verses engraved on minds, sung and widely quoted in letters, was a unique personality with his style, world and attitude towards humankind. It is now time to witness his unique world.
